got a pretty bit discount on this. I hate Windows already
I want to change my display language, and apparently most windows versions come with the single language configuration. In other terms, I need to spend 100 dollars so that my computer can learn English.
Also, why the fuck does it need 3gb of ram at idle?
Fuuuuck this, I’m gonna instal linux.

Convoluted, yes, but it should change the display language

The idle RAM is a known issue, it’s probably Window s antimalware or another Windows service. I’ve done 4 Win10 installs and it’s happened on two of them.
Also for me languages are listed in the store as being free. Maybe it’s different in Mexico?

Which means you got the newest security flawed Intel CPU....cool.
Don’t worry, my gaming machine is a few generations back i7, along with every other desktop I have around the house. I did purchase a ryzen for my work notebook earlier this year though, I like that machine.
Windows works for me but I do hate Microsoft, with the fury of the 1000 burning Suns.

I was under the impression that windows 10 (and maybe win7) will idle with cached applications, all based on how much total physical RAM the machine has, preempting commonly used software.
Said another way, the same machine with half the amount of RAM will dynamically adjust the available RAM at idle , after a settling period.
I could be wrong, it’s happened once or twice before.

Update: I’ve forced English upon this machine like the Spanish forced Catholicism
upon the Mexica:

Many manufacturers cheap out and install “windows 10 home single language” It comes pre-installed with Spanish. If you go to the CMD and type winver it’s gonna tell you what windows version you have.
TL:DR I had to force install english, force uninstall spanish, and re start the computer.
As for idle RAM, yes, there’s a lot of crap going on in the background. I killed some of it but I don’t want to be overzealous

I've found the only way to get Microsoft to behave is to force it, this is the way it's been done for generations and will be the way it goes for generations to come.

Honestly, the chances are pretty damn low that the security flaws will impact you, I’m sure this notebook will be completely fine.
Enjoy your new toy.

I dunno...I have Linux Mint on my daily laptop and my Media Center PC and Win10 on my gamin
desktop and I’ve honestly not had any trouble with Win10 at all.

Does it have a decent SSD? It’s my understanding that Windows 10 can detect if it is on an SSD and will use a lot of RAM at idle because there is minimal penalty to swap to disk. Similarly, MacOS uses a lot of RAM these days because most Macs have very fast SSDs and they are constantly swapping. I have a 2017 iMac with the Fusion drive and it felt more sluggish than my old 2011 MacBook Air until I upgraded the RAM to 24GB to get it to the point it wasn’t swapping around to the hard drive any more.
TL;DR if you have a decently fast SSD it doesn’t really matter if the system is using a ton of RAM at idle.

It has an SSD and windows is installed on it, the other drive I’m using for less important stuff (videos, apps, etc)

It should use the SSD for swap (page file) then. As long as there is a decent amount of free space on it then it should perform pretty well.

Windows uses that RAM because unused RAM is worthless. Probably just using it as disk cache. Easy enough to check the Memory tab of Resource Monitor if you want to see what’s actually using it (and how much is really in use vs. how much is used for Standby).

I really like the Lenovo 720 I bought used off Ebay for a heft discount. Only issue is some bs screen rubber slides down on the to 1 mm of screen. It is only slightly annoying cause otherwise it is a great computer.

It’s not actually the exhaust, like many laptops it blows behind the display hinge.
The problem is with the intake; there’s a large slot in the back-panel, and you can actually see the boards and the fan thorough it; it’s not filtered at all, I feel like this inlet sucks in so much shit that I’m gonna have to remove the panel and clean the boards very soon.

Ah ok I have the 720 with the i7. I think all their Yoga book (convertibles ) have the underside intake. And yeah I bought mine used and there was a hole punch hole inside the intake slots. I pulled it out but have been contemplating taking off the bottom cover to double check it is all clean. The other issue with that is any non hard surface the thing gets HOT if those are blocked.... making the laptop portion of it a bit awkward straddle.

That is another issue, and you don’t really want the fans sucking in lint or dust from the fabrics. It’s a strange design decision.....

I mean, it would liberate a bit more space for the screen to move, but then you’d cover the intake with the screen... Maybe they assume that in tablet mode users are going to be lite

Well you have the littler rubber feet that keep the bottom off the surface of the desk which in turn keep the back of the screen off the intake.
